ERGOLAB Butterfly Cervical Pillow — Wake Without the Locked Neck

Every cervical pillow stops at C3. This one goes to C1 — the vertebra your chiropractor keeps adjusting.

Five pillows in four years, plus a chiropractor at £45 a session. First week with this one felt odd, almost sent it back. Week three: I stopped waking up stiff. It’s the only thing that’s held.

The ARC Zone contours the atlas (C1) — where every other pillow stops

8 cm arm tunnels — no dead arm at 3am, even for broad shoulders

Two heights in one pillow (11 cm / 9 cm) — rotate it, you can’t pick wrong

Fewer than 2% of customers ever use our 60-night money-back guarantee.

The Two-Finger Test · 5 seconds

Feel the gap your last pillow missed.

1

Place two fingers at the base of your skull, where the occiput meets the neck.

2

Push gently upward until they stop against bone. That hollow is the space above the atlas (C1) — the deepest point of your cervical curve.

3

Now think about what’s been under it every night for ten years.

Nothing.

That’s the Shelf Gap. The ARC Zone is the only contour built to sit inside it.

Almost every patient I see for chronic morning tension has already tried three or four cervical pillows. Some arrive with five.

They all share the same design flaw: the contour peaks around C3–C5, so the top vertebra — the atlas — sits in a hollow. Overnight, the suboccipital muscles hold the head where the pillow should. That’s the tension patients wake up with.

ERGOLAB is the first cervical pillow I’ve seen where the contour continues up to C1. It won’t fix a structural problem — no pillow can. But for patients whose mornings are worse than their days, it’s the piece their setup was missing.

Dr. Patel consulted on the ARC Zone design. He isn’t paid per sale.

The shape, in motion

Every other pillow ends at C3.
Ours keeps going.

Watch the ARC Zone continue past where standard cervical contours stop — up to the base of the skull.

Standard contour · stops at C3 ARC Zone · continues to C1 (the atlas)

That extra centimetre of contour is the shape your last pillow didn’t have.

The 8 hours nobody fixed

You fixed everything —
for the 16 hours you’re awake.

Split image: an optimised ergonomic desk setup by day, a misaligned neck on a flat pillow by night

The 16 hours you fixed. The 8 you didn’t.

The £300 standing desk. The £250 ergonomic chair. The screen height. The stretches between Zoom calls. The walks. The yoga. The osteo bills.

Now look at the 8 hours nobody talks about.

The ones where your neck holds one position for 480 minutes — bent, braced, or unsupported.

Every millimetre of alignment you build during the day drops out here. Not because you did something wrong — because you weren’t there to hold it.

The work you do by day,
undone by night.

That’s the part you haven’t fixed yet.

What your neck does while you sleep

Your head weighs about 5 kg — roughly a bowling ball. It sits on your cervical spine for eight hours a night, held there by three muscle groups: the suboccipitals at the base of your skull, the levator scapulae down the side of your neck, and the upper trapezius across your shoulders.

When your head is fully supported, these three groups switch off. They’re meant to. When it isn’t, they can’t — they spend the night contracting to hold what the pillow should.

That’s the tension you wake up with. Eight hours of isometric contraction — not a bad night’s sleep.

What makes it different

Most cervical pillows contour the middle of your neck. ERGOLAB is built for the part they all miss.

Every cervical pillow you’ve tried peaks somewhere between C3 and C5 — the mid-neck. That’s where the foam ends. That’s where support stops.

The rest of your cervical spine — C2, then C1, the atlas, up to the base of your skull — sits in a hollow. Every night. For eight hours. That’s the shape ERGOLAB was built to fill.

ARC Zone — the contour built to support the upper cervical spine up to C1

The upper cervical curve — where every other pillow stops.

The ARC Zone

The one contour built for
the atlas.

Standard cervical pillows peak between C3 and C5 — the middle of your neck. The contour ends there. The top of your cervical spine, up to C1 (the atlas), sits unsupported in the hollow above.

The ARC Zone is a raised contour that continues past C3 all the way up to the base of your skull. When it’s loaded, your suboccipital muscles have nothing left to hold.

Verify it

  • Contour extended to C1 — the base of the skull, not just the mid-neck
  • 42 kg/m³ density, published — holds shape through 8 hours of load
  • Profiled to the cervical lordosis — the natural forward curve from C1 to C7
Side sleeper with arm resting in the 8cm arm tunnel, shoulder in line with the spine

The 8 cm tunnel. Room for the arm the T-Rex position folded up.

The 8 cm arm tunnels

For the side sleepers who wake at 3 am
with a dead arm.

Your arm has to go somewhere. Under your head, under the pillow, folded across your chest — there’s no good option when the cut-out is 5 cm deep and your shoulder is 12.

That’s why sleep experts call it the T-Rex position. The arm tucks in, the shoulder rolls forward, and the pillow does the pinching all night.

ERGOLAB carves 8 cm tunnels on both sides of the pillow — 3 centimetres more than a standard cut-out. Your arm slides in flat. Your shoulder stays open, in line with your spine.

Verify it

  • 8 cm depth, both sides — a standard cervical cut-out is 5 cm
  • Room for shoulder + arm + hand — no folded elbow, no compressed wrist
  • Built for the 72% — the share of UK adults who sleep on their side (UK Sleep Council)
ERGOLAB pillow flipped showing the two heights — 11 cm and 9 cm — of the Flip-to-Fit system

Two heights, one pillow. Rotate 180°.

Flip-to-Fit

Stop buying pillows
like lottery tickets.

Three pillows in three years. Too high, too flat, never right. One night you tried stacking two together to guess your way to the right height. It didn’t hold.

The right height for your neck depends on your shoulder width. Every pillow you’ve bought guessed. ERGOLAB doesn’t.

The pillow has two heights built into the same piece of foam. Rotate it 180°. The 11 cm side fits broader shoulders and side sleepers. The 9 cm side fits back sleepers and lighter frames.

Ten seconds to test both. Not ten days of foam inserts. Not ten weeks of Amazon returns.

Verify it

  • Two heights: 11 cm / 9 cm — both engineered, not the accidental sag of a single foam block
  • No inserts, no zippers, no removable foam — a 180° rotation, and you’re on the other height
  • One pillow, not three — 60 nights to find your side, at £59 instead of £180
ERGOLAB pillow cross-section — 42 kg/m³ high-density memory foam

The last cervical pillow you buy this decade.

42 kg/m³ density

Doesn’t flatten after night one.
Same shape six months later.

Your last three pillows all felt right at week one. By month three, they were flat pads. The foam that felt firm at the shop had lost the shape you paid for.

The reason nobody tells you: foam density. Most cervical pillows use foam soft enough to feel great in the box, and cheap enough to collapse under 5 kg of head, eight hours a night.

ERGOLAB is built on 42 kg/m³ memory foam. The same pillow at 6 am as it was at midnight. The same shape on night 300 as on night one.

Verify it

  • 42 kg/m³, published — a number every other brand keeps hidden behind ‘premium foam’
  • Returns to shape in seconds — press it, it fills back in. It’s doing the same thing under your head.
  • Built for 3–5 years of use — a £12/year pillow, not a £59 one (£59 ÷ 5 years)

Real customers, real mornings

What people say after a few nights.

The 8 hours you spend on it matter more than the 10 seconds you spend reading about it. Real customers, real photos, real mornings — below.

What you'd ask a friend who owns one

Every question before you buy.

If it's holding you back, it's below.

I've already tried cervical pillows. They didn't work. Why would this?

Fair question. Most cervical pillows contour between C3 and C5 — the middle of your neck. The top of your cervical spine, up to C1, sits in a hollow above the contour. That’s the area where morning tension builds while you sleep.

ERGOLAB’s ARC Zone extends the contour past C3 all the way to the base of your skull. It’s a shape decision, not a “better foam” claim. If the shape isn’t the one your neck needed, you have 60 nights to send it back.

How long before I notice a difference?

Most people report a change within 10 to 14 nights. Some feel it after the first night. A few need 2 to 3 weeks for their body to adapt.

The foam needs a few nights to soften to your shape, and your neck muscles need time to learn a new resting position. That’s why we built in 60 nights — enough to make a real judgement, not a one-night verdict.

I sleep on my side / back / stomach. Will it work for me?

Yes — ERGOLAB is designed for all three positions.

Side sleepers use the 8 cm arm tunnels to keep the shoulder in line with the spine — no folded elbow, no dead arm at 3 am.

Back sleepers typically prefer the 9 cm side, which keeps the head at a neutral angle.

Stomach sleepers also use the 9 cm side — the lower height is gentler on the lower back.

Most adults change position multiple times a night. The pillow adapts as you do.

Which side should I use — 11 cm or 9 cm?

The pillow has two heights, and you choose by rotating it 180°.

Use the 11 cm side if you sleep mainly on your side, have broader shoulders, or feel that a flat pillow leaves your neck unsupported.

Use the 9 cm side if you sleep on your back or stomach, have a lighter frame, or feel that high pillows push your head forward.

Try both for a few nights — your body usually picks a favourite within a week.

What happens if it doesn't work for me?

You have 60 nights from delivery to decide. Sleep on it. If the shape isn’t right for you, email support@ergolab.company and we’ll walk you through a full refund of the pillow price.

Return postage is at your cost — usually £4 to £6 with a UK courier. We process refunds within 5 working days of receipt.

You’ve not got much to lose — that’s the point of the 60 nights.

What is it made of? Is it safe?

ERGOLAB uses 42 kg/m³ premium memory foam — the same density grade used in high-end office seating — wrapped in a soft, breathable cover with mesh side panels. The foam is CertiPUR-US® certified: independently tested for low emissions, content, and durability. The cover is hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin.

When your pillow first arrives, it may have a faint “new foam” smell. This is normal and fades within 48 hours of unboxing — leave it out in a ventilated room.

Is the cover washable?

Yes. The outer cover unzips and is machine-washable at 30°C — gentle cycle, mild detergent, no bleach. Air-dry only (the elastic mesh can shrink in a tumble dryer).

The memory foam inside should not be washed. To clean spots on the foam, use a damp cloth with mild soap and let it air-dry fully before putting the cover back on.

What's the 7-Day Neck Reset Guide?

A short digital protocol included free with every ERGOLAB order. It’s the daytime routine Dr. Patel recommends to patients starting on a cervical pillow — seven habits for the 16 hours you’re awake, designed to protect what the pillow is doing during the 8 hours you’re asleep.

Each habit takes 2 to 5 minutes. Nothing requires a gym, equipment, or supplements. Most people see the best results when they combine the pillow with the guide for the first week — that’s why we built them as a pair.

You’ll receive the guide as a downloadable PDF in your order confirmation email.

Who do I talk to if I have a question?

You’ll hear from James Whitfield, who handles UK customer questions personally. Every reply is written by hand, not copy-pasted from a template — usually within a few hours.

Sizing, sleep position, delivery, the trial, the guide, anything else — James is the right person to ask. He sleeps on ERGOLAB himself, so he knows the product the way a customer knows it.

Reach him at support@ergolab.company.

When will I receive it?

Orders are processed within 2 to 3 days. Delivery to your door typically takes another 6 to 10 working days via tracked service. You’ll receive a tracking link by email as soon as your order is dispatched.

Free UK delivery on every order. No hidden fees at checkout.
